Scour Reduction around Bridge Pier Using the Airfoil-Shaped Collar

Scouring around the bridge pier is a natural and complex phenomenon that results in failure. Failure of bridges have potential devastation public safety economic loss, which lead to political consequences environmental impacts. Therefore, it essential countermeasure scour pier. This paper studies effects four different airfoil-shaped collars (i.e., bc1 = 1.5b, bc2 2.0b, bc3 2.5b bc4 3.0b, where bc b are diameter collar pier, respectively) as countermeasure. All experiments conducted under clear water conditions with uniform sediment constant depth (y) 10 cm. Airfoil-shaped placed at elevations, i.e., bed level, y/4, y/2 3y/4 above level. It observed maximum percentages reduction 86, 100 100% occurred due protection provided by bc2, bc4, respectively, So, efficient The profiles hole show length transverse greater than longitudinal one. Numerical investigation morphological changes contours developed using FLOW-3D for without collar.
